Creamy, tangy and just as good as the real thing, this retired Chick-fil-A Cole Slaw recipe is as easy and delicious as it gets!
Remember back in the day when Chick-fil-A used to have coleslaw? It was a perfect side item to their chicken sandwich if you could bare not ordering waffle fries. Sadly, CFA stripped the coleslaw from their menu a few years ago to make room for other foods, but y'all! THIS IS THE RECIPE.
And something you probably knew if you've been following me for awhile: I do NOT do mayonnaise. Maybe it was the ungodly amount of tuna salad sandwiches I consumed in middle school? Whatever the reason, there are only a few foods that are enticing enough to get me to eat mayonnaise: John's crab cakes, yum yum sauce I each with my hibachi chicken and/or hibachi vegetables, and this Chick-fil-A cole slaw.
This Chick-fil-A cole slaw is creamy and just slightly tangy -- with just the right amount of sugar and vinegar to make the coleslaw sweet but not too sweet and vinegary but not too vinegary.
The Secret Ingredients
There is actually zero secret to this recipe because it IS Chick-fil-A's cole slaw recipe. After they took it off the menu, there was such an outcry that they decided to make their coleslaw recipe public. (And side note: I just got sucked into watching the memorial video CFA put out for their dead side {link above}...what's become of my life?!)
You were a delicious side item, Chick-fil-A coleslaw. Now I'll continue making this from the comfort of my home. RIP.
Here's all you'll need:
- shredded green cabbage
- carrots
- sugar
- white vinegar
- mayonnaise
- salt
- dry mustard
What Makes this Cole Slaw So Special
- Only takes 5 minutes of your time. Whisk the ingredients together, fold in the cabbage and carrots, and let the refrigerator do the rest.
- Requires no fancy ingredients. You already have most everything, I bet.
- It's totally nostalgic. This Chick-fil-A coleslaw brings me right back to my childhood. Ahhhh!
How to Make Chick Fil A Cole Slaw
Step 1: Whisk the ingredients for the sauce.
Whisk white vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt together until sugar is dissolved. Add mayonnaise and whisk to mix.
Step 2: Fold in cabbage and carrots and mix to combine.
Step 3: Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving
It's as easy as that.
Make in Advance
This coleslaw is the perfect side item to make in advance, as it's even better the longer the coleslaw sits in the refrigerator.
The refrigeration time will allow the sugar to make the cole slaw sweat a little -- making a super light sauce that tenderizes the cabbage.
Pro Tip: Cheat with Coleslaw Mix
Two of these coleslaw mix packages are sufficient for this recipe -- and the pre-packaged coleslaw already includes carrots, so you don't technically need any more.
I still prefer to dice up more carrots though. The more carrots the better IMHO.
What to Eat with your Slaw
- BBQ pulled pork (and this is BY FAR my favorite recipe). We've eaten this every other week all summer long.
- Corn pudding -- because if you're going to do the South right, you definitely need to serve corn pudding.
- Copycat Chick-fil-A kale salad -- you know, just in memoriam of other dead menu items.
- No Bake Strawberry Cheesecake for dessert because #delicious
As always, if you make anything from the blog, be sure to let me know! I love hearing from you in the comments on this post below or find Worn Slap Out on Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest!
